Open EPI Cluster Workshop on IoT Ecosystems
Organized by EPI Cluster // DG CONNECT, European Commission
15th March 2017, Berlin, 9:30-15:00 (open doors 9.00) at Neue Mälzerei
Background: The scope of IoT-EPI cluster initiative is to create ecosystems of "Platforms for Connected Smart Objects", integrating the future generations of devices, embedded systems and network technologies and other evolving ICT advances. These environments support citizens and businesses for a multiplicity of novel applications. They embed effective and efficient security and privacy mechanisms into devices, architectures, service and network platforms, including characteristics such as openness, dynamic expandability, interoperability, dependability, cognitive capabilities and distributed decision making, cost and energy-efficiency, ergonomic and user-friendliness.
IoT-EPI is a European Initiative under The EU-funded Framework programme H2020 about IoT platform development. At the core of IoT-EPI are the seven research and innovation projects: Inter-IoT, BIG IoT, AGILE, symbIoTe, TagItSmart!, VICINITY and bIoTope.
The EPI cluster's success depends on the development of secure and sustainable European IoT ecosystems. This requires validation of the related business models to guarantee the sustainability of the approach beyond the project. The cluster will build on an existing network of innovation hubs, accelerators, linking to vibrant developer communities for expanding local businesses to European scale. The EPI projects should liaison with and connect to technology developers and application developers and complementors who will enhance the impact of the cluster projects. With a total volume of 5.5 M€ it is expected that more than 100 IoT-application experiments will get tech support through open calls.
Purpose: Analyse and describe the ever-changing IoT landscape and the value configurations of IoT, as well as identify existing ecosystem and the corresponding business models to exchange best practices on the implementation of EPI cluster projects in preparation of defining and launching open calls.
